a fall garden party

a fall garden party

Talk about finding the perfect wedding location! James and Jill cemented their love by saying “I do” against a backdrop of exotic flowers and lush vegetation at the Roger Williams Botanical Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

By holding their wedding in a botanical garden, the couple solved two of the most difficult pieces of the wedding-planning puzzle—flowers and event site—AND reconciled their desire to create a summer-like ambiance with the reality of their late-fall wedding date, when many flowers aren't available locally. “We knew our guests could tour and experience all the unique plant life,” says Jill. “And it provided some entertainment for those who might not want to dance.”

Not only did their selection cut down on the need for decorations, it also eliminated the carbon emissions and pollution caused by floral transportation. Instead of shipping in truckloads of cut flowers, James and Jill opted for a spot with ample blooms already in place—a nice eco-twist that no doubt resulted in money saved. (And imagine how pristine the air quality must have been for their wedding guests!) Plus, the money the Roger Williams Botanical Center earns through event rentals helps support the organization’s myriad environmental education initiatives, such as the courses on sustainable agriculture it offers through the University of Rhode Island. Just goes to show, location really is everything.
